How to Feel Contented
This little bit of needlework which I picked up at a flea market has a potent message. I imagine that whoever created this was feeling content as they formed the letters with their embroidery needle. “Contentment is not the fulfilment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have.”
Another quote I like reminds me of my hardworking husband. “Happiness is what happens when you are too busy to be miserable.”
A third quote I like is profound, I think. “Bad thoughts can not survive in a heart that is grateful.” We need to cultivate gratitude. I remember a very elderly lady, who each morning when she awoke would walk to a window and say out loud, “Thank you Lord for another day!” She had very little to do, and could perhaps have been tempted into boredom, but she started her day with gratitude. Bad thoughts have difficulty growing in a heart that is grateful.
